Area Information

Long before Park City became a world class mountain resort and venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, it was famous as a silver mining town, and boasts a lively and colorful past.  Founded by prospectors in the late 1860's, Park City continued to mine silver until the early 1970's.  The mining company, Park City Consolidated Mines, started the ski business in 1963, when they built the first lifts on what was then called Treasure Mountain. The Park City area now has three world class resorts: Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort, and the Canyons Resort.

This rich history provides visitors with an unforgetable experience. When you're not busy enjoying the world class skiing you can check out many of the 2002 Olympic venues that are all within short driving distance. It is easy to relive the moments, such as the American sweep of the snowboarding events, right from the chairlifts at Park City Mountain Resort.

After a long day of skiing it's great to soak in a private hot tub in your condo or home and then head out to one of Park City's culinary motherlodes. Main Street is home to over 100 of some the finest dining establishments in the United States. When you're there don't forget to head in to some of the fabulous shops and galleries that Main Street has to offer.

For those who prefer to spend their vacation off of the slopes there are plenty of other activities to enjoy. Sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating, shopping, fly fishing, bike riding, sleigh rides and many other activities await to accomodate those who prefer to spend their vacation away from the mountain tops.

And let's not forget Park City's best kept secret: The Summer! Although the resorts may not be open for skiing during the warmer months they switch gears and become a hiking and mountain biking paradise. Golfing in Park City is an unbelievable experience especially in the fall when the leaves are changing color. With about 10 championship style courses within 25 miles there is a course to challenge every level of golfer. During the first week of August, Park City hosts the Kimball Arts Festival with hundreds of artists showcasing their work right on Main Street. It is a can't miss event for any art enthusiast.
